Who gets to run the barbecue? Safar Bros' dad-and-son 'Facts'
The comments have become a roll call of backyard cooks from Tonga, Australia, South Africa and beyond, each with a father who never handed over the grill.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 150,439 views a day, 13 times a normal first day on this channel (11,928).
Facts 😂 #dad #son #bbq
Some arguments are older than the grill itself. In the newest short from Safar Bros, called "Facts" and tagged simply #dad #son #bbq, a son offers to take over the barbecue, and from what viewers replay in the comments, his father's answer is a flat no.
That is the whole joke, and it has traveled. Eight hours after going up, the short had passed 70,000 views, far beyond what a new short from the two brothers usually reaches in a full day. The comment section is already almost three times busier than a usual first day.
The comments are mostly people recognizing their own families. One Pacific Islander says every family has the relative who makes barbecue look easy. A Tongan viewer remembers a whole cow cooked in the backyard in the 1980s, watched from behind a window. Others sign in from South Africa and Australia to confirm it works the same way there, a few predict something is about to catch fire, and one sharp-eyed viewer spots a quiet step backward hidden in a cut. Another hears Eddie Murphy's cookout routine from Delirious in it.
The brothers describe their channel as skits built on culture and street humor, and their tags often point to Samoan jokes, including a MasterChef bit aimed at Gordon Ramsay. Their other Sunday short, "Patience is key," also ran well ahead of their usual start. By Monday they had moved on to a skit about phones and a brother who should take his own advice.
