They were expecting something rugged, perhaps a Land Cruiser or a Mustang. The white Tesla that pulls up instead leaves ShakTV's two waiting tradies wondering whether their mate is having them on.
"When Your Friend Buys An Electric Car" was the channel's only new upload, reaching roughly 110,000 views. Shak plays the excited owner and both sceptical friends, with wigs, sunglasses and sharply different levels of enthusiasm doing the character work. The description's premise is that buying an EV changes your whole personality; the mates duly predict oat-milk lattes before they've even inspected the interior.
Getting them into the car doesn't settle matters. The keycard, missing physical buttons and touchscreen give them fresh material, while the owner tries to sell them on parked-car Netflix and steering-wheel video games. In the comments, viewers point out the awkward music accompanying the Tesla's arrival and a shot that puts two Shaks together. Another wonders where the creator's actual opinion sits, a useful distinction for a sketch built around such emphatic characters.
The Tesla upload is also the channel's busiest individual video right now, drawing more than twice the daily views of "The Rich Kid Who Acts Like He Grew Up In The Hood". September's "That One Friend Who Won't Be Getting GTA 6" remains active too.
ShakTV added 1,000 subscribers over the week, continuing its modest growth, although daily viewing is currently below its usual level. Among similarly sized sketch channels, EthanThe Artist and phoebeisginger had substantially busier viewing weeks, while Joel Iyalla was quieter. For ShakTV, this week's fresh material came from a familiar social hazard: buying something your mates won't let you enjoy in peace.
