Ethan Becker sits for a portrait, and finds his existential crisis, in Ross Draws' Symphony glimpse

The one new video started from an ordinary reference photo of a friend, and the description calls it a little glimpse into Symphony.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

On a usual day, Ross Draws brings in around 12,000 views across the whole channel. Lately it has been running at about double that, and one video explains most of it.

"I Made My Friend Have an Existential Crisis for Art" went up on September 30, the only upload of the week. The friend is credited plainly in the description as the reference: Ethan Becker, the YouTuber some viewers know from his friend-group videos with Ross. Commenters spotted him at once, calling it a rare appearance, and one of the most liked notes is simply a cheerful remark about how good he looks on camera. Others point out that the whole piece grew out of a reference photo that seemed perfectly innocent, and a few thank Ross for walking through his thinking. The description adds only that this is a little glimpse into Symphony, and one viewer asks the natural question: is it an art book or a graphic novel with a story?

That question fits the season on the channel. Two weeks earlier Ross posted a short thank-you as his book preorders began shipping, and in July he explained why he was leaving Anime Expo after ten years, a decade that began with his first Artist Alley table in 2016. Both are still drawing a handful of viewers a day, a quiet tail behind the new one.

Among the art, craft and magic channels around his size, this is a calm week. Sam Builds and Kalitaku are pulling enormous daily crowds, while Ross sits at the gentler end of the group, closer to Minibricks and Learn Online Video. For him, though, a portrait of a friend was enough to double the usual pace.
