A father and his young son died after falling from a high-rise apartment balcony in Greater Noida early Friday, according to India's Hindi-language news channel Republic Bharat. Correspondent Sumit Jha reports that the child slipped while picking flowers for worship and that his father lost his balance trying to save him.
The report places the fall at the 23rd floor, shortly before dawn. Greater Noida is in Uttar Pradesh, near Delhi. The family had been preparing to travel to the Khatu Shyam temple in Rajasthan, and the broadcaster's description cites police as saying the flowers were being collected before departure.
Jha describes wet conditions following rain as part of the circumstances surrounding the fall. That account is presented as the explanation for the accident, rather than something captured in the footage.
In an on-site interview, Amar Singh recounts the immediate aftermath. He says security staff called to alert him that someone had fallen, and that the bodies were found on the club terrace below. Guards then went upstairs and learned that a father and child had fallen from the apartment.
Singh says police regarded the deaths as accidental. The report also says the bodies were taken for autopsy.
Jha turns to the balcony railing and raises questions about its height and safety standards in high-rise housing. The report does not establish a defect or a breach of building rules.
