Video surging 21x the video's usual pace

Rank Dawg's Alligator Core, Part 4, keeps climbing, and Bug Core follows

The reptile ranking that barely stirred on its first day has more than tripled since yesterday, and the channel picked up 35,000 subscribers in a week.

Why this story? The video is running at 337,920 views a day, 21 times its usual pace (16,345).

"Ranking Best Alligator Core (Part 4) 🐊" spent its first day on Rank Dawg with under 4,000 views. Four days later it is past 464,000, and nearly all of that came in the last two days. When it showed up here yesterday it had just passed 130,000. It has more than tripled since.

Rank Dawg is a clips channel. It does not film alligators. It ranks other people's footage in short countdowns, and its about text stresses the work that goes into them: hand-picked clips, keyframed captions, sound design and color grading. The "core" in the title is internet slang for a mood or a genre, here the everyday, slightly absurd life of big reptiles.

The comment section is small, so the talk is easy to follow. Several viewers single out number 3 as the cute one. Others say number 2 looks happy, that number 4 nearly ate the fish, and that number 5 made every noise except an alligator's. Two comments suggest one animal gets called ugly, and one viewer replies that it is an albino, and not ugly at all.

The alligators are not alone. "Ranking Best Bug Core (Part 2) 🪳", posted a day later, is also running well ahead of its usual pace. Sea lions and cops meeting animals have passed 100,000 each. Over the week the channel went from about 209,000 subscribers to 244,000, a gain of roughly a sixth.
