Video taking off 11x its usual first day

Greenland fills the comments under NowThis Impact's 'The World Is Watching'

A short video asking whether America is respected abroad yet passed 180,000 views in seven hours, about eleven times what a new upload on the channel usually gathers in a full day.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 405,367 views a day, 11 times a normal first day on this channel (36,151).

The World Is WatchingThe World Is Watching

Short title, fast start. "The World Is Watching" went up on NowThis Impact on September 30 with a one-line description, "Are we respected around the world yet?", and tags pointing at Trump's foreign policy and the 2026 midterms. Seven hours later it had close to 185,000 views. A typical new video on the channel collects about 36,000 in its first day.

The comments show what the video is about. Viewers talk almost entirely about Greenland: an agreement on military bases there, what it means for NATO, and the point several of them make that Greenland itself signed it. Many viewers, from the United States, Canada and Denmark, tell the people in the video they have nothing to apologize for, and a running joke wonders how the president will reply. Those are viewers' readings of the deal, not established facts, but they show what drew people in. Donald Trump first raised the idea of buying Greenland in 2019, so the subject is not new to this audience.

It is the second fast starter on the channel in a few days, after a clip about Trump, women and Obama, as we reported here. The channel's daily views are running at about twice their usual level. Among news channels close to it in size, The New York Times and PBS NewsHour are also busier than usual.

The rest of NowThis Impact's output is moving at its everyday pace. Videos posted the next day on immigration court, ICE and families' immigration stories each have a few thousand views so far.
