Passengers standing guard at the cockpit carry The Telegraph's second hijacking video
The short cabin clip from Flydubai Flight FZ1073 is running at about eleven times a usual Telegraph first day, alongside the paper's longer reconstruction of the same flight.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 159,173 views a day, 11 times a normal first day on this channel (14,072).
Passengers say they are "guarding pilot" after suspected hijacking
The Telegraph has a second video from Flydubai Flight FZ1073 drawing a crowd, and this one is told from inside the cabin. "Passengers say they are "guarding pilot" after suspected hijacking" is a brief clip of people aboard the Boeing 737 MAX 8 from Dubai to Tel Aviv, standing watch at the front of the plane after what they describe as an attack.
Fifteen hours after it went up, it had passed 124,000 views. That is about eleven times what a new Telegraph upload usually gathers in its whole first day, and it has helped lift the channel to nearly double its normal daily audience.
It sits beside the paper's longer account of the same flight, as we reported here, which follows the plane through a sudden plunge to an emergency landing at Tabuk in Saudi Arabia. In that telling, the captain, stabbed and losing consciousness, managed to open the cockpit door, and passengers rushed in. The new clip shows the moments that followed: travelers who had boarded for an ordinary flight, now keeping guard.
The comments under it are mostly thanks, to the passengers who moved toward the cockpit and to the injured captain.
A third video posted the same day, of passengers applauding after the landing, has drawn a fraction of either.
