'He's still running?': a 138-yard call becomes NFL on FOX's hit
A short of one woman's own play-by-play, interception and all, drew more comments than anything the channel posted after Thursday night's Browns-Steelers game.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 421,928 views a day, 32 times a normal first day on this channel (13,373).
She might just have a future in sports commentary 😂 #NFL #Football #Funny
Nobody in this clip works in a broadcast booth, and that seems to be the point. NFL on FOX titled it "She might just have a future in sports commentary," and more than half a million people have watched her call the action in barely more than a day. On this channel a new short usually ends its first day well short of that.
The comments read like a transcript, because viewers keep repeating her lines back to each other. One is the build-up to a score, yard line by yard line, until "touchdown." Another is a run she clocks at 138 yards, a distance no football field can hold. Many single out her interception call, which skips the jargon and simply announces that the quarterback threw it to the Broncos. And the line that tops the replies is a puzzled "He's still running?", which some viewers say she manages to deliver in two versions. The replies came in roughly eighteen times faster than on a usual first day.
The rest of the channel's day belonged to Thursday Night Football. The Browns beat the Steelers on a field goal by Andre Szmyt with 10 seconds left, and the clips that followed covered Aaron Rodgers being sacked five times, Rodgers and head coach Mike McCarthy out of step, and Cleveland celebrating. Each of those ran several times past a normal start. None came close to the call with no stats in it at all.
