Goaltending jokes take over Sportsnet's second Oilers-Canucks reel
Edmonton's visit to Vancouver on October 1 passed 400,000 views within a day, and its comment section moved roughly thirty times faster than a usual Sportsnet first day.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 425,231 views a day, 25 times a normal first day on this channel (17,272).
NHL Highlights | Oilers vs. Canucks - October 1, 2026
Edmonton and Vancouver opened against each other, as we reported here, and the October 1 rematch in Vancouver has given Sportsnet a second big reel from the same matchup. "NHL Highlights | Oilers vs. Canucks - October 1, 2026" passed 400,000 views in under a day. Most new uploads on the channel finish their first day nearer 17,000.
The comments explain the appeal better than any score line could. Viewers keep adding up the goals scored across the two games and treat the goaltending at both ends as the night's running joke. One comment compares the defense to Swiss cheese. Another worries that a hockey YouTuber known for his magnet boards will run out of magnets. Several Vancouver supporters say they do not mind losing if every night looks like this, and a few mention a comeback that came close. Edmonton's side of the thread mostly asks how many goals it will take to win with this goaltending. Older fans call it a throwback to the 1980s.
The pairing carries real history. The Oilers beat the Canucks in seven games in the second round of the 2024 playoffs, so neither fan base arrives at these games neutral.
The same night also delivered for teams far from Canada. The Panthers' trip to San Jose drew a big audience of its own, a little under half of the Oilers-Canucks crowd, and Kraken-Flames ran well ahead of the usual pace as well. Across the whole channel, the day's views ran at about three times the norm.
