An investigation into the killing of a well-known Oaxaca corn vendor has connected his death to two people later found dead in Santa María Atzompa, according to Mexico's MILENIO.

Correspondent Álvaro Morales reports that state prosecutors identified one of those found dead as a passenger on the motorcycle used in the attack on Jesús Alvarado, known as El Chuy, and his wife, Rosalba. The couple were attacked on October 3 in the Equidal neighborhood of San Martín Mexicapan.

Alvarado was known locally for selling elotes and esquites, preparations of corn served on the cob or as kernels. Morales says prosecutors have established that the motorcycle passenger participated in the vendor's killing. That remains an account of the investigation, not a finding by a court.

The central development comes from Oaxaca state prosecutor Bernardo Rodríguez Alamilla: investigators have evidence suggesting that the same person ordered both the attack on the couple and the subsequent killings. The report does not announce an arrest of that suspected organizer.

Morales attributes the attack on Alvarado to debts involving "gota a gota" loans and extortion in the Oaxaca metropolitan area. The investigation therefore connects the motorcycle used in the first attack, a participant later found dead and the person prosecutors believe commissioned the killings.
