LaGuardia, Heathrow and no room left: Mentour Now! on the airport bottleneck
The sister channel to Mentour Pilot asks how an airport grows when the city has already closed in around it.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
The “Bottleneck” Costing BILLIONS For Aviation
How do you grow an airport that has run out of land? That is the question behind "The “Bottleneck” Costing BILLIONS For Aviation," the only new upload on Mentour Now! this week. The description points to LaGuardia and Heathrow as places already living with the problem: demand keeps rising, and the neighborhoods around the fences are not going anywhere.
It started quickly. Thirteen hours in, it had passed 117,000 views, far ahead of anything else on the channel. Viewers answered the way aviation people do, with their own airports. Some write about San Diego, where a Marine Corps base sits right against the field. Others bring up Miami, Phoenix's ring road, Newark's runways and the second airport Las Vegas is planning out in the desert. Several ask Ben for more of these "nerdy" topics, and one would like the team to take on baggage handling next.
Behind it, the look back at Northwest Airlines, posted eight days ago, has passed 200,000 views. It tells the story of the Minnesota mail carrier that opened the North Pacific route to Asia before it disappeared into Delta.
The week as a whole was slow. Daily views sat at well under half the usual level until the new video arrived, and among the aviation and machine channels close to its size, only one added fewer views. Mr Hewes, with his newly revived engine, had by far the biggest week in the group.
