Whistle Queen climbs the Himalayan foothills, and Massee Media rests

A 73-day-old freight run on the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, derailment and field repairs included, is the channel's busiest video while nothing new went up.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Massee Media posted nothing new over the past seven days, and the channel kept moving anyway. Daily views ran a little above their usual level, carried by a train that left Siliguri back in July.

That train is "Darjeeling Himalayan Railway steam freight adventure Part 1 of 2 - Siliguri to Kurseong", shot in May. It follows B-Class locomotive No. 802, nicknamed 'Whistle Queen', from the sheds on the plains of West Bengal up into the foothills, through the line's famous reverses, where the train zigzags back and forth up the slope. Along the way a freight wagon comes off the rails at Rongtong, the crew re-rails it and patches the valve gear by the roadside, and somebody sands the track by hand on the steep bits. The run ends at Kurseong after dark.

Right behind it is a video from four years ago that has nothing to do with mountains: The Livi B. Railroad, a live steam line built by Evan Bautista that loops 250 feet of track around his house in Willow Glen, California, and is named after his daughter. It has passed three and a half million views and still draws almost as many people a day as the Himalayan trip.

Part 2, the street-running ride from Kurseong into Darjeeling with its close call with a water truck, has found a much smaller crowd than Part 1.

Among the machine channels close in size, this was a gentle week. Mr Hewes and Diesel Creek both ran several times above their usual pace, and Massee Media gathered the fewest views of the group.
