'We are... Penn State,' the Hawkeye Wave and Katie Feeney's college football weekend
Her short on Penn State's famous chant led a run of stadium-tradition clips, and its comments turned into a tour of other schools' chants.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 120,377 views a day, 16 times a normal first day on this channel (7,750).
We are PENN STATE #shorts
"We are..." goes the call, and back comes the answer: "Penn State." It is one of the best-known chants in college football, and Katie Feeney's short named after it passed 90,000 views within fourteen hours of going up. A new short on her channel usually ends its whole first day with fewer than 8,000.
It was one stop on a busy college football weekend for her. "The Hawkeye Wave" took on Iowa's best-loved custom, the moment at Kinnick Stadium when the crowd turns to wave at the children watching from the hospital next door, and it moved almost as fast. So did a short about Ohio fans who, in her title, "travel well," and a lighter one in which, the title says, Pat blamed the UGGs.
The Penn State comments arrived about a dozen times faster than on a usual first day, and they rarely stay in State College. Kentucky fans offer their own "We are UK." Someone insists UCF did it first. A South Carolina supporter explains how "Sandstorm" has trained them to shout "USC" at any stadium that plays it, even at another school's game. Others turn up mainly to needle the Nittany Lions about their season, which may be a tradition of its own.
The same day brought a different kind of first. Katie also posted a clip from her live TV debut on Sunday NFL Countdown, ESPN's pregame show, and next to the stadium chants it has had a much quieter start.

The Hawkeye Wave, when Iowa fans wave to children at the hospital beside Kinnick Stadium, began in which year?
Iowa fans first did the wave toward the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital at the end of the first quarter in the 2017 season, and it has been part of every home game since.
