Arthur Ashe, Pablo Sanchez and a missing John Madden: Broadcast Boys' sports racial draft

The four-upload week opened with a draft that filled its comments with picks viewers say got left on the board, from Serena Williams to Vin Scully.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

WHO REIGNS SUPREME IN THE SPORTS RACIAL DRAFT?!WHO REIGNS SUPREME IN THE SPORTS RACIAL DRAFT?!

"WHO REIGNS SUPREME IN THE SPORTS RACIAL DRAFT?!" is exactly the kind of argument Broadcast Boys likes to start: the hosts take turns picking athletes by background, sport by sport, and then let the audience grade the board. It went up on Monday and is the week's most watched upload, past 80,000 views.

The comments read like a list of complaints about who went undrafted. The most liked one cannot believe nobody took John Madden as the broadcaster, and others make the case for Vin Scully and for Chris Berman, his famous "whoop" included. Serena Williams gets her own crowd, a few viewers bring up Arthur Ashe, and one tips a cap to whoever remembered Pablo Sanchez, the kid hero of Backyard Baseball. A slip calling Travis Pastrana a BMX legend did not go unnoticed either.

Three shorts filled out the week: a baseball list of champions who won without their best player, a salute to Munetaka Murakami and a countdown of the biggest NBA award snubs. That last one, three days old, is the fastest of the new uploads. Still, the video doing the most work is the one we already wrote about twice, the list of great NBA players who never hit a three, now past 220,000 views.

The channel ran well above its usual daily pace, adding a little over a million views in the week while the subscriber count held still. Among American sports creators of a similar size, Quarterback Plug and The Deep 3 had the big weeks, and Broadcast Boys landed in the middle of the group.
