Kamoka Pearl's reef fish get their share of the spotlight

The farm's pearl-price film has passed half a million views, with viewers discussing oyster care as much as jewelry.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

A pearl's size and shine explain its price, but the reef fish explain much of the conversation beneath Kamoka Pearl's only new upload this week.

"$1 vs $10,000 pearl" has passed half a million views. The farm's promotional mini-documentary moves from an irregular keshi pearl to a large aubergine-colored specimen, then turns to the work behind the jewelry. Algae and other organisms accumulate on the oysters and weigh down their lines. Rather than pressure-washing them, the farmers move them into shallow water, where reef fish pick them clean.

That arrangement has given viewers something beyond the price tags to discuss. Comments pick out the care taken to keep oysters alive, the fish getting a meal and the relationship between farming and the surrounding reef. Others make a case for the small, irregular keshi pearls rather than the rounder showpieces.

The new upload is now the channel's strongest daily draw. October's "The Most Remote Homestead on Earth" and the older "Farming the most expensive pearls on Earth" are also bringing in substantial viewing, keeping life on the farm in the picture alongside the harvest reveals.

Kamoka Pearl added 10,000 subscribers over the week, while daily views are now more than twice their usual level. Among nearby outdoors channels, B2B Castaways and Field Days are also seeing above-usual daily viewing. For Kamoka Pearl, the distinctive detail remains underwater: the cleaning crew swims to work.
