Jenna Lu's Halloween mom approves white pumpkins, not Hello Kitty
Her parenting parody gets viewers debating where joyless rules end and sensible trick-or-treating manners begin.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 255,172 views a day, 9.9 times a normal first day on this channel (25,860).

The candy hasn't even arrived, and Jenna Lu's mom character is already arranging its replacement: a book from the Switch Witch.
In her Halloween sketch, Jenna plays a parent whose tightly controlled taste extends from the lawn decorations to an off-screen child's costume. Hello Kitty is rejected in favor of a plain cat. The neighbor's colorful inflatables are unacceptable. "This is why we only do white pumpkins," she says.
The Short drew an estimated quarter-million views in its first day, almost ten times Jenna's usual start. It follows her last-minute animal-costume comedy, but this time the obstacle isn't assembling an outfit. It's getting the outfit, the candy and the evening past Mom.
The character permits only a brief trick-or-treating trip, dismisses adults who dress up and treats apples as an adequate alternative to the haul. Jenna keeps the sketch pointedly domestic: the same parent policing everyone else's Halloween aesthetics also insists on warm layers underneath the costume.
That last rule is where the comments stop going along with the joke. Several viewers defend long sleeves, while others make a case for taking only one piece of candy and remembering to say thank you. The comment section was about five times busier than on a usual first day.
Even the Switch Witch has a defender: one reader who prefers books to candy sees nothing wrong with that particular exchange.

@Edie_FrancomSee it on YouTubeCan’t relate to the long sleeve one because it’s hot on Halloween where I live
@Emilia_the_eyekonicSee it on YouTubeTake one piece unless the person giving out candy says otherwise, always say thank you, and if it's cold, do not argue about layers under your costume
