Prison debts, red uniforms and a lifer's calm: 'Collecting Prison Debts!' passes 1.5 million
Fifteen uploads went up in seven days, and Matthew Cox's channel drew about twice its usual daily views, more than 30 million in the week.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Collecting Prison Debts!
Fifteen uploads, and nearly all of them live behind bars. Matthew Cox, the former con man who served 13 years for bank fraud and now interviews people about their crimes, spent his week on prison life: a first day inside, a white guy in the wrong prison, a home robbery plan, and the one that took off, "Collecting Prison Debts!"
Posted on Tuesday, it passed a million and a half views in four days and is still the video gathering the most each day. The comment section has gone somewhere unexpected. Plenty of viewers find it funny that the debt collector never actually got what was owed, and a recurring thread comes from people who did time themselves, swapping notes on why the lifer units were the calmest places they were ever held. Others can't get past the gang leaders in the video wearing red uniforms.
"First Day In Prison!" arrived on Friday and is already gathering views almost as quickly. Meanwhile the breakup question from a week ago, "Is He Wrong For Breaking Up With Her?", has passed 660,000.
The whole channel ran at about double its usual pace and added 20,000 subscribers. Among the true crime and courts channels near its size, no one gained more views over the week; Beyond Evil, Willie D Live and Nancy Grace were busy too, while CLR Bruce Rivers kept to an even, ordinary pace.
