Nintendo sent a representative, an N64 and a secured cartridge. Going home would have to wait. Peer Schneider's account of reviewing Ocarina of Time gives IGN Games' biggest upload of the week a wonderfully practical detail behind that famous perfect score.

In "Revisiting IGN's Original Ocarina of Time Review - NVC 832", Schneider tells Logan Plant about the supervised office session and playing through the night before the game's 1998 launch. The retrospective has passed 100,000 views, making it the most watched of the channel's five new uploads.

This isn't just a victory lap for an old review. Schneider finds the Forest Temple surprisingly modern on replay, while reserving considerably less affection for Lord Jabu-Jabu's belly. Plant and Schneider also examine auto-jumping, controller constraints and the changes made for the 3DS version. In the comments, one reader recalls refreshing IGN64 for screenshots over dial-up; others ask for Schneider to narrate his original review in a modern video.

Zelda carries across the week's other busy uploads. Daemon Hatfield, Justin Davis and Tom Marks include it alongside Phantom Blade Zero and Modern Warfare 4 on Game Scoop!, while Plant's earlier hands-on remake episode remains among the channel's most active videos. Smaller new uploads bring Marvel Contest of Champions, Top Hat Studios' fall showcase and a Grand Theft Auto ranking to the mix.

Subscribers held steady, with roughly a quarter-million views added over the week. That puts IGN Games around the middle of its nearby gaming-commentary peers, with Retro Jakes having a much larger viewing week. Here, the continuing draw is a return to Hyrule, including the unusually long night that helped establish its reputation.

What viewers say

  • Great walk down memory lane. I was a kid and reading IGN64 every day leading up to this game. Back in the dial-up days where we were living for every screenshot and any information these guys could find and trying to imagine what this game would be like. I remember reading Peer's review and the hype level was insane. It was a long wait for Christmas.

  • Okay, in light of this, you need to do a "modern" IGN video of Peer's original review with him narrating it!
  • Ocarina of Time is gaming royalty

  • I just played the forest temple in n64 ocarina and Navi does tell you that you can get a deku stick if you hit it a certain way . In ways ocarina is hand holdy but it’s more gentle reminders or nudges to guide you rather than straight up telling you go her now here etc
