WATCH: Shocking moment a knife-wielding migrant climbs on small boat en route to Britain
The Home Office declined to comment on a reported knife confrontation aboard a Britain-bound small boat because, it said, it had not received the footage despite repeated requests, according to GB News, the United Kingdom broadcaster that published the recording.
The broadcaster places the incident just south of Hardelot-Plage in northern France. Its account says an argument broke out between a man aboard an inflatable dinghy and another trying to climb on. The man attempting to board produced a large knife and appeared to lunge towards the passenger, the broadcaster reports, before dropping the weapon into the water and managing to board.
The mobile recording shows people scrambling onto the crowded boat from the sea. "Coast guard, he has a knife!" the camera operator shouts. He approaches the stern and repeatedly questions those aboard about the weapon. Patrol and rescue vessels are visible nearby, but the recording does not establish what their crews saw or heard.
Later, the operator says the knife has been dropped. The dinghy then starts its outboard motor and heads into open water. The broadcaster says the man was thought to be travelling towards Britain; the footage does not establish whether he arrived.
The Home Office, which oversees UK immigration, offered no incident-specific response. In an earlier statement reproduced alongside the video, the department said crossings had fallen and described efforts with international partners to prevent departures, seize boats and engines, and increase the number of officers working in France.
The UK's interior ministry, responsible for immigration, passports, national security and public safety. It also oversees policing and criminal justice in England and Wales.
