Road Rash returns with restored biker footage and roadside punches

GameTrailers' anniversary launch trailer brings back memories of punishing races, rock soundtracks and the long run back to a fallen bike.

Getting thrown off the motorcycle was only half the punishment. In the comments beneath Road Rash's anniversary trailer, viewers are remembering the slow journey on foot to retrieve it, with the race still going on without them.

The publisher's launch trailer, posted by IGN's GameTrailers channel, introduces Road Rash's 30th Anniversary Edition for PC. It drew about 85,000 views in eight hours, already far beyond the channel's usual full-day audience for short uploads. The comments have also passed its usual first-day total many times over.

The footage keeps the game's unruly combination intact: motorcycle racing, punches between riders, traffic to dodge and obstacles that can end a promising run. Bike-selection menus sit alongside the live-action biker sequences that gave this version so much of its personality.

There is a specific restoration detail tucked into the opening: the trailer says its full-motion video footage comes from the master tapes, without AI upscaling. It also advertises smoother, 60 FPS gameplay. The closing cards list Steam and GOG as destinations for the anniversary edition.

A broader EA Classics launch trailer on GameTrailers is drawing an unusually fast audience too, bringing Road Rash together with Wing Commander and other returning games. But the motorcycle game's comment section has its own particular memories: a parent buying the PlayStation version on impulse, later races made punishing by police roadblocks, and discovering bands through the soundtrack. Alongside those recollections is a straightforward request from console players: bring it to their machines too.

  • This Road rash got so hard around the 4th/5th season, the traffic levels and obstacles in the road were insane, the police road blocks were brutal too and if you made a mistake in the last quarter of the race it was pretty much over and some of them races were 15 minutes long
