Dodgers-Braves, Aranda's first postseason homer and Big Papi: baseball takes over FOX Sports

After a run of Nations League highlights, the channel spent Sunday on October baseball, and its Dodgers-Braves recap passed 220,000 views in about two hours.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

For most of the past week FOX Sports belonged to soccer. On Sunday it switched to baseball.

The six most watched of its fifteen uploads this week all went up the same day, and all of them are MLB. The full "LA Dodgers v. ATL Braves RECAP" carries the load, with more than 220,000 views about two hours after it was posted. Around it sits a string of shorts that read like a postseason diary. Jonathan Aranda's first postseason home run puts the Rays ahead of the Yankees early. The Yankees get their first hit in the eighth inning, only to see it turn into an out. A Brewers pitcher the title calls The Miz is "throwing gas" on the very first pitch of Milwaukee's postseason. And "Never change Big Papi" gives David Ortiz, the former Red Sox slugger and longtime FOX studio voice, his own moment.

The wider week was calmer than usual. Daily views are running below the channel's normal level, and it added about 10,000 subscribers over seven days. Among nine similar American sports channels it still placed third for views gained this week. The NHL channel is the one running well above its own usual pace, while The Pat McAfee Show and NBA on ESPN are both quieter than they normally are.

The early shorts are only hours old. For now, the recap is doing what FOX Sports' Nations League highlights did a few days ago: it gives viewers the whole game in a few minutes.
