El-Sayed tells Trump he can "call me Senator"
Fox News's victory-speech Short draws eight times its usual first-day comments, with El-Sayed's January swearing-in becoming a talking point.
Why this story? The video drew 2,252 comments in its first day, 8.1 times a normal first day on this channel (278).
WATCH: El-Sayed MOCKS Vance, Trump in victory speech #shorts
Abdul El-Sayed moves quickly from celebrating Michigan's result to addressing the men he expects to face in Washington. Fox News's brief victory-speech clip follows the senator-elect through a farewell to his opponent, a pointed greeting to JD Vance and a new form of address for Donald Trump.
He tells Mike Rogers to enjoy retirement, then addresses the vice president as "Habibi." El-Sayed describes a "delicious irony" in his expectation that Vance will administer his oath in January. Turning to Trump, he refers to the president's difficulty with his name: "So after JD swears me in in January, you could just go on and call me Senator."
The Short's views were ordinary for Fox News, but its first-day comment section was about eight times busier than usual. Among the political responses is a question about El-Sayed's assertion that Vance is constitutionally obligated to swear him in. The Constitution requires senators to take an oath, but does not require the vice president personally to administer it.
Elsewhere on Fox News, unusually busy comment sections also accompanied its coverage of Democratic victories in Texas and Jesse Watters's assessment of Republican losses. This clip stays with El-Sayed's victory-night message rather than his legislative plans.
