Co-pilot probed after Flydubai flight attack | FOX 10 Phoenix
A Phoenix station rarely leads its day with a story from the skies over the Middle East. Eight hours after it went up, FOX 10 Phoenix's short on the Flydubai investigation had about 29,000 views. A short on the channel usually ends its whole first day under 3,000.
The report covers an attempted hijacking of a Flydubai flight bound for Israel. Investigators suspect the co-pilot, identified as a citizen of Oman, of stabbing the captain and trying to take over the plane before he was restrained. The description says Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the captain's courage and calm, then ordered his National Security Council to review threats to passenger planes flying to Israel.
Much of the report is about vetting. According to the description, Omani officials had earlier banned the co-pilot from flying, Australian intelligence had been watching him, and no passenger and crew list was shared with Israel in advance. U.S. Ambassador Mike Huckabee called it a terrorist act. The State Department said there is no immediate threat to American airlines or travelers.
The station returned to the story in its Tuesday live news block, where it ran alongside Arizona's 1st District race and a ballot mix-up in Maricopa County.
