Tariffs, not traffic. FOX 10 Phoenix bills itself as the metro area's home for news, weather and traffic, but its busiest new video is a report on trade between Washington and Beijing. Barely a day old, it started at about twenty-six times the pace a new upload on the channel usually manages. For a station whose new videos tend to open quietly, that counts as a real departure.
The segment follows last week's summit between President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Over the weekend, both countries announced lower tariffs on a list of goods that reads like a department store inventory. American farm products, cosmetics and medical devices go one way. Chinese toys, holiday decorations and car seats go the other. US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer is quoted calling the deal "frankly a small fraction" of the two countries' trade, though he expects Chinese purchases of soybeans, meat and seafood to help American farmers. Chips, electric vehicles and batteries were left out, and the broader trade truce was extended until January.
It is the second world-politics story in a row to lead the channel, after yesterday's Strait of Hormuz report. One pattern carried over, too: comments are once again running almost level with likes.
