Seventeen lobotomized Marios and one caretaker: Failboat's 'protect him'
The one new upload hands his friend CJya a level full of deliberately bad bots, built in his own game, and it passed half a million views in six days.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
protect him
Failboat's channel moves at an even clip: a usual day brings in around 400,000 views, and this week sat right on that line. What changed is what he is making. The creator who built a following on "the idea is simple" Kirby and Mario challenges now writes his own games, and the week's single upload, "protect him," is the next piece of that project.
The description explains it: he programmed a crowd of very bad bots, dressed them up as Mario, and set his Mario-expert friend CJya loose among them. Viewers have their own summary, that Mario has cloned himself and lost his wits, and CJya is now the babysitter. The comments linger on a 3D model that stretches farther and farther as CJya falls, with one viewer offering a frame-by-frame theory of why the Godot engine sent him into space. Others note that the bird from earlier videos is back, call it the best edition yet of his fake Switch games, and point out a quick cameo by Noteblock, his longtime editor.
The bigger draw is still "How I Made a Game That Pissed Everyone Off," his story of Cata-Bomb, made for the GMTK Game Jam with his Simple Idea Dev Team and played on camera by DougDoug and other creators. Thirteen days in, it has passed 1.3 million views and is still pulling roughly twice the daily audience of the new video.
Among let's-play channels of his size, Failboat added the third most views of the week. Northernlion and Blarg are running well ahead of their usual pace, while chuggaaconroy is quieter.
