Fifteen years of Let's Plays, and Dream Team reaches episode 43

Chuggaaconroy's two new Mario & Luigi episodes took the party into a nerd's basement and then up against a tower that grows.

Chuggaaconroy's channel has now gathered more than 1.3 billion views, built on a habit his about line sums up cheerfully: over fifteen years of Let's Plays, and somehow he is still not sick of them. The current project is Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, the 3DS role-playing game from AlphaDream, and two more episodes went up this week.

Episode 42, "Basement Dungeon," sends the brothers to meet someone with what the description calls enthusiastic basement secrets. The comments turned it into a small seminar. The most popular thread explains why Dreambert, the Pi'illo prince, shows up in the dream world with his whole body this time instead of as a floating pillow head (Luigi is sleeping on Bedsmith, so Dreambert travels in person). Others want a word on entomology versus etymology, a few explain the firefighting idea behind more fire putting out fire, and retail workers thank him for a moment that clearly struck a nerve.

Episode 43, "Fight the Tower," promises in four words that "We grow once more," and within seven hours it was already gathering views faster than anything else on the channel. A comment under the earlier episode mentions that Emile was moving house, which may explain the gap between the two.

The channel overall ran a little slower than its usual daily pace. Among the let's-play channels of its size, Chuggaaconroy has the most subscribers, while ImCade and AstralSpiff are the ones having the busiest weeks.
