Copper cable meets screwless sockets in eFIXX's hands-on week
A silent outdoor installation brings back apprenticeship memories, alongside smart bedroom lighting and solar-panel fencing.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Old-School Cable Meets a VERY Modern Socket!
What happens when an old-school cable meets a modern screwless socket? On eFIXX, quite a bit of preparation before the wires ever reach the terminals.
"Old-School Cable Meets a VERY Modern Socket!" follows an unseen electrician mounting an outdoor enclosure on a stone wall, stripping mineral-insulated copper cable and fitting sealing compound, a pot seal and colour-coded sleeves. Only then come the socket connections and a torque screwdriver. There is no spoken commentary, just the work, which has drawn roughly 446,000 views and made this the most-watched of the channel's ten new uploads.
The comments provide the conversation. Electricians recall working with the cable, often called pyro, during their apprenticeships, right down to the smell of potting compound. Others wonder whether it is an elaborate choice for an outdoor socket. A few initially thought they were watching television or satellite cable being prepared.
Elsewhere, eFIXX tested the Shelly Dimmer Gen4 for bedroom lighting scenes while retaining conventional switches, demonstrated a steel-conduit cutter and showed solar panels doubling as garden fencing. Joe Robinson's Electrical News Weekly examined supply-voltage problems that can disconnect EV chargers and solar inverters.
The audience grew by about 2,000 subscribers over the week, although daily viewing is currently well below the channel's usual level. Among nearby home and DIY channels, Homeworthy had a somewhat larger weekly views gain, while rctestflight and The Minimal Mom had quieter weeks.
The copper-cable installation also carries the most daily momentum. Behind it, a month-old demonstration bending LED strip into a ring remains busy, alongside the new stadium-floodlight wiring upload.

Almost 30 years ago, I worked in a water pumping station, upgrading an intruder alarm system. Much of the interior was clad in black wood panelling and all the wiring for everything - mains, fire alarms, our intruder alarm and all the water pumping equipment - was surface clipped black coated pyro. It I don't think I've seen it since and it was quite surreal as I think back.
