No Modern-Day President Would EVER Say This... But Trump Just Did #DollemoreDaily #DonaldTrump
Donald Trump questions whether Abdul El-Sayed should have access to national security secrets, then says he would need special screening to enter the Senate. Jesse Dollemore's response is blunt: the president is targeting the candidate because he is Muslim.
The exchange is the center of a Dollemore Daily Short that reached roughly 164,000 views in 22 hours, far beyond the channel's usual first-day audience for Shorts. Its comment count was also nearly ten times a typical full first day.
El-Sayed is the Democratic nominee for Michigan's Senate seat. In the rally footage Dollemore plays, Trump says: "He would be the only senator that will have to go through a metal detector before he's allowed to go into the Senate."
Dollemore argues that the remark reflects prejudice, not a reason to regard El-Sayed as a security threat. "And it is just because he's Muslim. That's the only reason," he says.
His rebuttal turns to the logic of judging someone by a name: he compares it to treating anyone named Timothy as dangerous because of Timothy McVeigh. That analogy gives the Short its central argument, rather than leaving the response at an expression of outrage.
