A closet, a mirror and dead zones: Dawid fixes his terrible home WiFi

His only upload of the week turned the comment section into a help desk, while a 20GB RTX 3080 bought from AliExpress keeps gathering views.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Dawid's channel promises tech stuff "often poorly" done, and his one new video set out to undo a problem closer to home. "I Fix My TERRIBLE Home WiFi..." went up on September 30 and drew about 93,000 views on its first day, a solid start for a video about routers.

The comments are where it got lively. A lot of people turned amateur network engineer: one points out that the paint on the back of a mirror contains metal, so shutting the closet door blocks most of the signal, and another adds that a metal shelf in there was never helping either. Several suggest wiring the node on Anna's desk straight into the switch by the TV. Romanian viewers had a gentle correction of their own, noting that their country has some of the fastest and cheapest internet around. And one person admits their router is zip-tied to a tall lamp stand.

The video doing the most work, though, is three weeks old. "I Bought A Modded RTX 3080 From Aliexpress..." is about a 20GB version of the card that, the description says, actually arrived and turned out to be a beast. It has passed a million views and is still pulling in far more each day than anything else on the channel. His look at running DLSS 5 on older games, with mixed results by his own account, is still finding viewers too.

Daily views ran a touch below their usual level, and the subscriber count held steady. Among similar tech channels, Retro Game Corps is having a big week, well above its normal pace, while Dawid sits fourth for views gained, behind jakkuh and Matt Talks Tech.

What viewers say

  • The backs of mirrors are covered with paint that contains metal, so basically when you close the closet door, you cut off most of the wifi signal.
  • Meanwhile my router is zip-tied to a tall lamp stand to improve coverage.

  • And, all this time I was calling it a router when it was always a rooter - thanks Dawid!
