Trump on Cornell rape case
Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the news on Friday. President Trump's reaction to it drew the far bigger crowd. "Trump on Cornell rape case" is a short clip of him talking to reporters before he left for a rally in Alabama, and it passed 60,000 views in its first seven hours.
The case belongs to a student who told campus police she had been raped at a Cornell fraternity house in 2024. At a press conference in Manhattan, Hochul criticized Cornell's police and the local district attorney, who did not file charges, and appointed New York Attorney General Letitia James to take over the investigation. C-SPAN posted that press conference too, and it is running at roughly a third of the pace of Trump's reply.
In the clip, Trump calls James "a corrupt person" and says he feels badly for whoever she is looking at, because they will not get "a fair shake." The two have a long history in court, as the description notes, from her office's suits against him to the Justice Department's indictment of her. The comments arrived more than ten times faster than on a usual C-SPAN short, and much of the talk turns that "fair shake" line back on the president.
The Cornell clip led a crowded Friday for the channel. Close behind it was Trump at Thursday night's rally in Durant, Oklahoma, calling Senate candidate Ken Paxton "a little controversial" and teasing his Democratic opponent, James Talarico, for being vegan. Strategists Doug Heye and Joel Payne on Sen. Eric Schmitt's mix-up at the Jack Smith hearing, Kevin Hassett on a weak September jobs report, and two election lawyers on the coming midterms all started well ahead of the usual pace too. Across the whole channel, daily views are running at more than double their normal level.
