Video taking off 13x its usual first day

A third aircraft carrier and 'Iran is ready to fold' carry a Face the Nation short

Ramy Inocencio's brief report on the troop buildup and Trump's midterm claim drew a weekday crowd, and a comment section full of questions about cost.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 110,420 views a day, 13 times a normal first day on this channel (8,564).

Trump is sending more troops to the Middle East but says Iran is ready to foldTrump is sending more troops to the Middle East but says Iran is ready to fold

"Trump is sending more troops to the Middle East but says Iran is ready to fold" fits two pieces of news into one title, and the short report behind it became the clip people chose on Face the Nation's channel. CBS News correspondent Ramy Inocencio covers both halves. A third U.S. aircraft carrier is heading for the region, and President Trump says Iran is ready to surrender the war once the American midterms are over.

The piece comes from CBS's weekday news coverage, not from the Sunday program the channel is named for. Within 13 hours it had passed 80,000 views, while a new short here usually finishes its whole first day under 10,000.

The replies came even faster, roughly fourteen times the pace of a usual first day. Many of them ask about the bill for another deployment. Others ask why the fighting goes on after earlier assurances that Iran's nuclear program had been set back.

It was not the only report to break out of the channel's routine. Dov Lieber's report on the flydubai pilot, who survived a midair stabbing and got help before his plane plunged, started at about five times the usual pace. A related Iran story, Natalie Brand's report on Trump's push to lower fuel costs while campaigning in red states, drew only a few thousand views.

The channel as a whole is having a lighter day than usual. That leaves two weekday shorts, one from the Middle East and one from a cockpit, doing a good share of its work before Sunday comes around again.
