Michael Jordan honors mother with $10 million gift to University of North Carolina

On an ordinary day, CBS Chicago's library draws a little over 400,000 views. Lately it has been running just under that, close to its usual rhythm across fifteen uploads.

Monday's full newscast was the most watched new upload within two hours of going up. It led with a court hearing for a woman charged in the stabbing death of a 7-year-old girl in Chatham. The same broadcast covered a $260 million settlement up for debate at City Hall, one person hurt during protests at a festival in Bridgeview, and the White Sox getting ready for Game 2 against the Guardians in Cleveland.

The rest of Monday was gentler. Michael Jordan, who played his college basketball at North Carolina, gave the university's School of Social Work $10 million to honor his mother, Delores, funding scholarships for master's students. The Morton Arboretum invited people out to see the changing leaves, and a couple from Philadelphia got engaged while stuck in a pileup on I-95 in South Carolina.

Among local stations of similar size, NBC 6 South Florida had the big week, with nearly twice CBS Chicago's views, while FOX 5 Washington DC ran well below its usual pace. CBS Chicago added about 1,000 subscribers, keeping its place among the larger channels in that group.
