Most news broadcasters around The National's size spent the stretch below their usual pace. ITV News ran at about half its normal daily views, and AccuWeather and Right Side Broadcasting Network slipped further than that. CBC's flagship newscast eased too, but more gently, sitting somewhat under its normal level.
Once again, the full evening broadcast is carrying the channel. A day after an episode built on Kyiv and a Fairford plot broke out, the September 29 edition, headlined by a white nationalist gathering that raised alarm in British Columbia, passed 110,000 views in under a day. Nothing else from the week comes close.
The rest of the fifteen uploads show a busy Canadian news cycle. Carney's LNG push appears twice, once as the headline of the September 27 broadcast and again in a clip on the $33 billion Kitimat expansion aimed at Asian markets. A Trump adviser warned Canada not to "interfere" with the U.S. midterms. A former defence chief described the turmoil inside the military during its misconduct crisis. Abroad, one report followed the campaign to free Imran Khan, Pakistan's former prime minister.
There is lighter news in the mix too. Sarah Nurse, the PWHL star and Olympic gold medalist, talks about the "iconic" return of Hockey Night in Canada, and the conversation is quietly holding its own. The subscriber count did not move.
