Detectives have retrieved video footage and interviewed witnesses after an air cadet leader suffered what describe as life-altering injuries during a poppy-selling outing.

In CBC News's Hanomansing Live interview, Supt. Michael Spencer gives the police account of how an air-horn disturbance became a violent confrontation. The interview adds investigative detail to earlier reporting about the arrests and assault charges.

According to Spencer, youths sounded an air horn near cadets offering poppies. Their supervising commanding officer followed them into a restaurant to confront them. Spencer says a woman intervened and assaulted the leader, knocking him down, before a youth struck him several times. A woman and a youth face assault charges, CBC reports.

Reporter Sarah Galashan outlines the incident before Ian Hanomansing questions Spencer about the evidence and the victim's condition. The report drew about 109,000 views since yesterday.

Spencer declines to describe the injuries in greater detail: "To respect the privacy of the victim, I'll leave it as life-altering. Due to them being life-altering, they are serious."
