Jo's present perfect lesson, and a roll call from Colombia to Vietnam

The British Council's one new upload was a live grammar class on the present perfect simple and continuous, while a ten-day-old podcast on asking for favours drew the most daily views.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Live lesson: Practice makes perfectLive lesson: Practice makes perfect

One live lesson, one podcast. That was the shape of the week on British Council | English, the channel of the organization's LearnEnglish site for adult learners.

The new upload, "Live lesson: Practice makes perfect," has Jo walking her class through the present perfect simple and continuous. The comment section reads like a classroom register: hellos from Colombia, Egypt, Argentina, Niger, India, Bangladesh and Vietnam, followed by students doing the homework in public. Some name hobbies they have tried, baking, skiing, crochet, sewing, and a few spell out the grammar rule itself, as if checking their answer with the teacher.

The channel's busiest video right now is a few days older. "How to get people to do things" puts Nishma, Neil and Neeraj around a microphone to talk about asking for help in English: how direct to be, whether too much politeness hides the request, and how living in different countries changed the way they ask. A spring Mini English Lesson on talking about mental health, presented by Shereen, keeps drawing views five months on, nearly level with the new live class.

It was a slower stretch overall, with daily views well under the channel's usual and a few thousand new subscribers on top of its 937,000. Among the explainer and education channels near its size, it gained the fewest views, while hoser ran far above its own usual pace.
