A day after Planet America carried the channel, the American politics show has company. ABC News In-depth put up fifteen videos this week, and the one now drawing views fastest is a short, blunt clip: a One Nation director telling a Four Corners reporter, in unprintable terms, to go away. It is barely two days old and is gaining views at about the same daily pace as the Planet America episode on Trump's approval troubles, which still has the bigger total, nearing 200,000.
The rest of the week reads like a map of the ABC's current affairs shows. Media Watch asked why West Australian papers went all out for Fremantle's AFL Grand Final, and it made a quick start. On 7.30, the veteran finance commentator Alan Kohler argued that the Reserve Bank has "given up" its narrow path, a reporter asked why 15-metre power poles are appearing in residential streets, and the program covered CCTV evidence shown at Beau Lamarre-Condon's double murder trial.
Across the bigger news broadcasters, it was a slow stretch. The ABC's main Australian channel, CTV News and the New York Post all drew fewer views than usual, and CBS Evening News was quieter still.
