DeSantis thanks emergency crews after Greenacres jet crash kills nine
5 News brings together the pilot's reported distress call, roadside footage and the Florida governor's response.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 142,029 views a day, 30 times a normal first day on this channel (4,752).
Florida plane crash: Pilot heard screaming as jet crashes killing nine
The private jet was travelling from Austin, Texas, to the Bahamas when it came down on a residential street in Greenacres, Palm Beach County. Everyone aboard died, 5 News reports.
Dani Sinha's short report follows the emergency response from a blocked-off roadway to aerial views of the crater left in the pavement. At a press conference, Florida governor Ron DeSantis thanks the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Department and Fire Rescue, describing debris scattered by the crash.
The report also recounts the pilot's warning to air traffic control that the aircraft was going to hit the ground. Authorities had not immediately established what caused the jet to come down.
The upload reached about 84,000 views in ten hours, already far beyond the usual first-day audience for a 5 News Short. A separate upload carrying the emergency radio audio has also drawn an unusually large audience. Its description sets out the crew's reports of icing and turbulence before the rapid descent, without establishing those conditions as the cause of the crash.
