Diesel, transformers and Iranian airliners: Peter Zeihan's five-video week

A diesel shortage video from September 28 has passed 600,000 views, and a follow-up on banning exports went up three days later.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Peter Zeihan spent most of his week on fuel. "The Diesel Shortage Hits America" opened it, with a description that ties the squeeze to Ukrainian strikes on Russian refineries and to the Persian Gulf conflict choking exports through Hormuz and the Red Sea. It is the most watched of his five new uploads by a distance, past 600,000 views. Three days later he came back with "How To Ban Diesel Exports", which argues that cutting off American crude or diesel exports would not help energy security at all, and that the problem is geography.

The comment section under the shortage video reads like a seminar with jokes. Plenty of viewers make dark cracks about self-inflicted wounds, others point to old rail lines torn up decades ago, one corrects the history of the Jones Act, and a reader in Poland chips in with what diesel costs there now. Several worry about home heating oil with winter coming.

The rest of the week moved away from oil: new U.S. sanctions aimed at anyone servicing Iranian-owned aircraft, China's push for AI independence without the advanced manufacturing to back it, and, on Friday, the large power transformers that stand in the way of a bigger American grid. That last one, the least flashy title of the five, is the one drawing the most views per day right now, just ahead of the diesel pair.

The channel overall is running slower than its usual pace, with subscribers holding near 972,000. Among the military and geopolitics channels around its size, Max Afterburner and BFBS Forces News had the busy weeks.
