NTSB finds portion of one engine in Learjet crash site as more debris discovered on roofs of home...
Investigators excavating the fatal Learjet crash site in Greenacres have recovered part of an engine, WPBF 25 News reports, while residents are still finding aircraft debris on nearby buildings.
The engine recovery is the new development in the station's continuing coverage of the crash that killed nine people. Earlier reporting described tail pieces found miles away; this update follows the search both at the impact site and among neighboring homes.
Reporter Terri Parker shows how that search reaches into residents' houses. Anthony Blackmon discovered debris on a neighbor's roof, where it had punched a hole and caused a ceiling to collapse inside. The report shows deputies retrieving a piece of metal from the roof.
Blackmon also describes witnessing the jet's descent and the explosion. "It was pretty crazy. Really shook the whole house," he says.
The short report drew roughly half a million views in its first day, far beyond the station's usual audience for this format. WPBF's follow-up coverage also includes the co-pilot's father speaking about his daughter and a news conference held by attorneys for her family.
Parker closes with the NTSB's instruction for anyone who finds suspected wreckage: do not touch it. Photograph it and report it to the agency.
