Yella Beezy trial coverage examines the limits of tracing cash
WFAA's fourth-day livestream draws an unusually large audience alongside a report explaining what currency shipping records can, and cannot, establish.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 232,823 views a day, 91 times a normal first day on this channel (2,554).

A banknote's serial number can help trace its route to a bank, but not every hand it passes through afterward. That distinction features in WFAA's coverage of the Yella Beezy murder-for-hire trial, as its fourth-day livestream reached roughly 97,000 views in seven hours, far beyond the station's usual start for longer videos.
Dallas rapper Yella Beezy, whose real name is Markies Conway, has pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors say he paid Kewon White to kill fellow Dallas rapper MO3, Melvin Noble Jr., who was shot and killed on Interstate 35 in November 2020. White was convicted of capital murder in September and sentenced to life without parole.
Alongside the livestream, WFAA posted "Yella Beezy trial: Tracking the serial numbers on $100 bills," which also drew an unusually fast start. It covers Wednesday's testimony from Joseph Catania, a director at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
Catania testified that the Federal Reserve keeps shipping records showing which bank receives a package of new currency and when. Those records do not show who later holds an individual bill or how it is spent: a specific limit on what the cash trail can establish.
