A knife, a dog and an empty island: Wade Papenfus goes it alone
His Sunday survival film, billed as fully solo with no resupply and no crew, passed 110,000 views in six days, with two short catch-and-cook clips behind it.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
I Survived Alone in a Deadly Uninhabited Island
Wade Papenfus usually brings company to his islands. Last month it was a group of primitive hunters, three days of reef fish and giant crabs cooked over fire. This time the title says he went in alone, with a knife and, as the description adds, his dog.
"I Survived Alone in a Deadly Uninhabited Island" went up on September 27 and passed 110,000 views in six days, comfortably the busiest thing on the channel. The description promises spearfishing, a bushcraft shelter and every meal earned from scratch, and teases that he got very desperate by the end. Viewers have been trading notes on the hunt: one guessed a stingray was coming the moment the spear kept missing, another wondered why he skipped the lobster, and a sharp-eyed few point to the bug that bit him hopping onto the back of his head. The comment section also reads like a map, with hellos from Puerto Rico, India and the UAE.
Two shorts followed, a giant crab that nearly took his fingers and a 24-hour eating-only-what-I-catch clip, both modest so far. The month-old hunters film is still finding viewers too.
All together, the channel is running at roughly half again its usual daily pace. Among outdoors channels his size, it is a lively stretch for several: Millennial Farmer is drawing more than twice its usual daily views, and LastBush Survival is running well ahead too, while Dan Hurd is right around his normal level.
