- 2:17Mark argues that extended pauses make this episode much slower than the previous instalment.
- 2:54He examines Masahiro Shimanuki's animation corrections and questions the attention devoted to Oolong's game.
- 4:34Goku's arrival loses "Omen of Victory"; Mark argues that the replacement silence feels awkward.
- 5:25The new CGI Shenron model gets scrutiny for what Mark sees as limited expression.
- 8:13The Super Saiyan God ritual earns praise, but Mark finds the final transformation reveal too visually conventional.
- 10:55His verdict: improvements remain, but inconsistent direction weakens the remaster's claim to be a definitive version.
Oolong gets the elaborate new animation. Goku gets his divine transformation, but not quite the reveal Totally Not Mark was hoping for.
That uneven allocation of attention drives Mark Fitzpatrick's review of Dragon Ball Super: Beerus episode four, which has drawn roughly 222,000 views in its first sixteen hours. The episode revisits the Super Saiyan God ritual, with a prolonged rock-paper-scissors encounter between Oolong and Beerus along the way.
For Mark, the problem isn't simply that a silly game takes centre stage. It's the contrast with scenes he thinks deserved more care. "Why did this get all of this new animation while Vegeta versus Beerus was given the bare minimum?" he asks. After the previous episode's brisk cutting, he finds this instalment unusually slow.
The transformation itself gets a more divided assessment. Mark praises Videl's pregnancy reveal and Goku's ascent during the ritual. He considers the sequence an improvement over the original, yet finds the final reveal visually ordinary: an upward camera pan rather than the striking arrival he wanted.
Other changes make the review a useful guide to what returning viewers will notice. He finds the new CGI Shenron short on expression, questions keeping the Pilaf gang while removing much of their material, and misses "Omen of Victory" during Goku's arrival.
That last choice produces a particularly clear disagreement in the comments. Several viewers argue that silence gives Goku's entrance more tension, while others discuss whether Oolong's extended game reveals something worthwhile about Beerus's wildly skewed priorities. The frame of Oolong facing Beerus is also getting nominated as wallpaper material.
Mark's earlier enthusiasm for the repaired Goku-Beerus encounter hasn't disappeared, but his verdict has narrowed: better individual scenes do not yet make this the definitive version he had hoped for.
