Marvin Hagler's unseen sparring footage opens Top Rank's vault
Filmed months before his 1986 fight with John Mugabi, the round sits beside an O'Shaquie Foster documentary ahead of his October 24 unification bout.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Rare! Never Before Seen Marvin Hagler Sparring Footage
Among the combat sports channels nearest Top Rank Boxing in size, WWE Vault, DAZN Boxing and Nat Hearn are the busy ones right now, all drawing well above their usual daily views. Top Rank, third of nine by subscribers, spent its week digging through the archive instead.
The find is "Rare! Never Before Seen Marvin Hagler Sparring Footage," a workout and a round of sparring from the camp before Hagler met John "The Beast" Mugabi in 1986. That night in Las Vegas, Hagler stopped Mugabi in the eleventh round to keep his undisputed middleweight crown. The footage has passed 70,000 views in three days, the most of the week's five uploads.
The present gets a turn too. "From Prison to Prime Time" follows O'Shaquie "Ice Water" Foster from time behind bars to the WBC super featherweight title, and it arrives with a date attached: Foster meets WBO and IBF champion Emanuel Navarrete on October 24 in San Antonio, three belts at stake.
The rest is long-form comfort viewing. An early Terence Crawford fight against Alejandro Sanabria ends, as the description promises, on a well-placed left hook. Then come the marathons: six hours of Muhammad Ali and, newest of all, eight hours of Floyd Mayweather in both his "Pretty Boy" and "Money" eras. Less than half a day old, the Mayweather marathon is already gathering views a little faster than the Hagler footage. Who has eight hours to spare? Plenty of people, it seems.
