Is Tyson Fury really 6'9"? Joshua's first face-off has DAZN Boxing's viewers measuring
The stare-down for the long-awaited British heavyweight fight drew far more than the channel's smaller clips from the same event, from Fury's answer to AJ's famous line to a James Bond joke about Eddie Hearn.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 355,543 views a day, 26 times a normal first day on this channel (13,824).
Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua gets real as fighters face off for the VERY FIRST time 🇬🇧💥
What does it look like when Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua finally stand nose to nose? A lot of people wanted to see. Ten hours after DAZN Boxing posted the face-off, billed as the first time the two have ever squared up, it had about 220,000 views. That puts it on pace for roughly twenty-five times what a new upload on the channel usually gathers on its first day.
The interest has been building for years. Fury and Joshua are the two British heavyweights of their generation, both former world champions, and a deal for them to meet fell apart in 2021 when an arbitrator ordered Fury into a third fight with Deontay Wilder. Plenty of viewers under the video note how late this meeting is.
DAZN cut several smaller clips from the same event: Fury finally answering one of AJ's famous lines, Joshua not ready to accept a beer from Fury, and Turki Alalshikh suggesting Eddie Hearn as James Bond. None of them has a quarter of the face-off's audience.
The comments have a favorite subject, and it is height. Fury is usually listed at 6'9" and Joshua at 6'6", and the most-liked comment argues that standing side by side settles the question. Others point to the two men smiling at the end, joke about the look Turki Alalshikh gives Joshua, and wonder where someone called Dana has gone.
The channel has already moved to its next headliner: a teaser for "Saúl," billed as the return of Canelo Álvarez and premiering on DAZN on October 20. It has barely started collecting views.
