No S allowed: Arin and Dan turn into cavemen in 'Don't Say 'S''

The 10 Minute Power Hour's one-letter ban, with a whipped-cream penalty and a fart that gives someone away, passed 900,000 views in four days.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

A usual day on The Grumps brings in somewhere around 375,000 views. Lately the channel has been running at close to twice that, and one forbidden letter explains most of it.

"Don't Say 'S'" went up on September 29 and has passed 900,000 views. The rule is simple, the results are not. Arin Hanson and Dan Avidan, the pair behind Game Grumps, try to talk without the letter S, and the comments trace how quickly it falls apart: first round like a stroke, the rest like cavemen, as one viewer puts it. Words get chopped down to stumps, a "pick color" here, a "nose bad" there, and viewers keep returning to one mangled name, Herlock, and to Dan's careful reminder that grimace is spelled with a C. Others mention whipped cream on Arin's mustache and a scream that sounds like a man facing execution. Several notice that his downfall came from his own body, not his mouth.

The idea had a warm-up. A day earlier the channel posted "use the letter S = get electrocuted," which had the bigger first day and is still past half a million, plus a smaller "No Letter Challenge." Then, on October 2, came "Arin can't name a song," already moving at a lively clip. An eight-day-old short, "Dan's three fav foods," is still drawing a steady crowd too.

The subscriber count held still over the seven days, while the views kept piling up. Grouped among food and cooking channels of similar size, The Grumps are a curious fit, and NYT Cooking is having a similarly busy stretch, while Breanna Stark and Louis Howard are the ones posting truly big days. Only Louis Howard added more views over the week than Arin and Dan.
