Nolan Wells' family and Maxine Waters call for a federal investigation
Don Lemon aired the news conference in full, and a second video on the family's demand to reopen the case also drew far more viewers than his uploads usually do.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 365,008 views a day, 11 times a normal first day on this channel (33,390).
Breaking: Nolan Wells News Conference
Two videos, one family. On Monday, Don Lemon's channel carried the news conference where an attorney for Nolan Wells' family and the California congresswoman Maxine Waters called for a federal investigation into his death. Within eight hours it had close to 190,000 views. A new video here usually ends its whole first day near 33,000.
The title is as plain as a title gets: "Breaking: Nolan Wells News Conference." It is the event itself, broadcast as it happened, not commentary on it. A second upload from the same day, "Nolan Wells’ Family Demands Answers: “Reopen The Case”," has Don going through what the family asked for at the conference, chiefly that investigators look at the evidence surrounding Nolan's death again. That video also ran far ahead of the channel's usual start.
Don stayed with the story on Tuesday in shorter clips. One title notes that in Mississippi no court reporter records the evidence presented to a local grand jury. Another asks why no one saw Nolan in his last moments.
The news conference already has nearly three times as many comments as a usual video here gathers in its entire first day. Most are prayers for Nolan's parents and calls for justice. Some come from people who write that they live in Mississippi, others from as far away as Los Angeles, and one viewer says they wrote to the governor.

The numbers
The news conference and the family's follow-up both opened far beyond what a new upload on this channel usually draws.
