Video taking off 25x its usual first day

Bill Kristol's long shots in Kentucky, Florida and South Carolina on Bulwark Daily

The Bulwark posted two other videos the same Monday, one on Tucker Carlson and one on Jon Ossoff, and both also ran far ahead of the channel's usual start.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 453,561 views a day, 25 times a normal first day on this channel (18,344).

Bill Kristol and Tim Miller cover a lot of ground in about an hour: a Trump rally in Ohio, a dinner for buyers of the president's coin, a food squeeze the description ties to the war with Iran, and fears of a plague outbreak at a Russian lab. The title, though, sells the polls: "Trump's GOP is Getting Shocking Numbers in Red States."

The heart of the episode is a run of sleeper races. These are the long shots the two men think are worth watching, in Colorado, South Carolina, Florida and Kentucky. Thom Tillis also gets several minutes of Tim Miller's attention, and the channel cut that stretch into its own short the next day, with Miller daring the North Carolina senator to come on the show.

The episode passed 217,000 views in its first eight hours. A new Bulwark video usually ends its whole first day near 18,000. It had company. Monday's MAGA Mondays episode, "Tucker Carlson Gets Fact-Checked in Real Time by His Own Guest," with Sam Stein and Will Sommer, drew slightly more, though it had been up for several hours longer. Miller's solo piece on Jon Ossoff's message to young voters was not far behind.

Comments under the Kristol episode were already nearly at a usual full day's count. Many of the most liked are tributes to a member of the Bulwark community remembered at the start of the show. Others come from viewers in Florida and the Midwest describing what they see at home, from yard signs to the price of diesel at harvest time, and from people who say they will trust no poll until the votes are counted.

The last chapter leaves the country entirely, for the Bolsonaro family's comeback in Brazil.
