Video taking off 22x its usual first day

"What is going on with Trump's legs?" Tommy Vietor joins Tim Miller to ask

The question in the title opens the weekend Bulwark Daily, and the hour that follows covers Iran, Jared Kushner, Eritrea and two Senate races.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 412,573 views a day, 22 times a normal first day on this channel (18,389).

Legs first, then the world. The weekend edition of Bulwark Daily, with Tim Miller hosting and Tommy Vietor as his guest, put the question about the president's legs right in its title. Eight hours after going up it had passed 200,000 views. A new Bulwark Daily usually finishes its whole first day below 20,000.

The legs are only the opening act. The description points to a brace and to a clip of Trump standing in a way it compares, with some relish, to someone mid-exorcism. Then the episode moves on. Close to an hour follows on the renewed pressure on Iran and the extra troops headed to the region, the hosts' argument that Jared Kushner profits from Israeli defense companies while working on the Gaza peace deal, a China summit, Ethiopia and Eritrea, the Texas and Michigan Senate races, polls the hosts consider too rosy for Democrats, and the All-In podcast crowd's push on AI.

Vietor fits the foreign-policy stretch. He was a national security spokesman in the Obama White House before he co-founded Crooked Media, where he co-hosts Pod Save the World. The episode also has some friction: Miller makes a case for regime change in Eritrea, and several viewers thank Vietor for pushing back on him.

The comment section was busy. In eight hours it gathered more comments than a usual episode collects in a full day. Kushner gets much of the attention, leg puns supply a fair share, and a lot of the talk turns to the Texas Senate race and to whether Chuck Schumer is recruiting the right candidates.

The channel had a crowded Friday. Catherine Rampell and JVL's live reaction to a September jobs report that fell far short of forecasts also ran well ahead of usual. So did Sam Stein and Will Sommer's look at the leaked script for the Daily Wire film Pawn Shop, a pro-ICE thriller being shot in Livingston, Montana, where the production has drawn protests. This is the third Bulwark Daily in a row to take off, after Eric Schmitt's hearing and Josh Barro's visit, as we reported here.
