'Nothing can prepare you': Tucker Carlson Network's viewer-discretion video finds a crowd
Many in the comment section say the man telling his story is from South Africa, and the replies arrived far faster than the channel usually sees.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 495,419 views a day, 11 times a normal first day on this channel (45,249).
VIEWER DISCRETION: Nothing Can Prepare You For What You’re About to Hear
Tucker Carlson Network put a warning at the very start of its newest title: "VIEWER DISCRETION: Nothing Can Prepare You For What You're About to Hear." The video has no description, and the title does not say who is speaking or what happened. The comment section fills in some of it. Viewers write that the man in the video is from South Africa, and many of them talk about the strain they hear in his voice as he tells his story.
Thirteen hours after it went up, it had passed 360,000 views. A regular video on this channel usually ends its whole first day somewhere around 45,000. The comments moved faster still: more than three times the channel's usual first-day total had arrived before the first day was over. Much of that thread comes from people who say they live in South Africa, grew up there or know someone who did. Others offer prayers for the man and for the people he describes.
The rest of the channel's last two days ran at a more ordinary pace. A segment on Ford's plans for new trucks and another titled "Trump Was Right About This…" are each in the tens of thousands, and a reaction to statements from the ADL is lower still.
The spike came on a quieter stretch for the channel as a whole. Its daily views are running a little below their usual level, while several political channels close to it in size, among them The Majority Report, Rebel News and Roland S. Martin, are running well above theirs. Almost all of the channel's attention right now is on this one account.
