Royal Marines pair parade music with a cemetery tribute
Colour Sergeant Kerrie Silk performs The Last Post at Cambridge American Cemetery, alongside the week's full Beating Retreat broadcast.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Beating Retreat on Horse Guards Parade 2026 | The Bands of HM Royal Marines
Two uploads, very different scales. The Bands of HM Royal Marines paired a massed-band evening on Horse Guards Parade with a remembrance performance centred on a single player.
The parade broadcast was the week's most-watched new upload, reaching roughly 332,000 views. Major Sam Hairsine introduces the ceremony's origins before drums and bugles assemble the parade through successive calls. The Wellermen join for "My Mother Told Me", while "Proteus: Protector of the Deep" brings intricate marching countermarches. It is music organised as movement, with the formation changes part of the performance.
The comments bring their own history. One viewer recalls crossing from HMS Fisgard to HMS Raleigh to watch the band practise in the seventies; another describes travelling from Canada after keeping Beating Retreat on a bucket list for years. Others pick out the transition from "Nearer My God to Thee" into "Sunset".
Thursday's "Remembrance Day | Last Post | Glenn Miller | The Bands of HM Royal Marines" offers a smaller-scale setting: Colour Sergeant Kerrie Silk performing at Cambridge American Cemetery. The band's description connects the tribute with music's reach, the cost of war and Glenn Miller's legacy.
Across the catalogue, the channel collected about 1.6 million views and added subscribers over the week. Daily viewing is modestly above its usual pace. The parade and Last Post uploads carry the strongest momentum, followed by a rather different musical assignment: the band's playful "Ghostbusters" soundtrack performance.

Came all the way from Canada to see the massed bands of the Royal Marines Beating Retreat. It was worth every cent and a few more as well. Superb and very emotional evening as this had been on my bucket list for several years now!
@BobMcDowell-p2hSee it on YouTubeFifty one years ago, throughout 1975, I used to cross the road from H.M.S Fisgard, to H.M.S Raleigh and go down to the parade ground to watch the Royal Marines Band practicing and also playing Sunset.
I am so pleased to see that the standards of dress and musicianship, have remained just as high as I recall, from all those years ago. Thank you to all concerned for this wonderful video.@davericketts9101See it on YouTubeBeautiful. That transition from Nearer My God to Thee into Sunset in particular was flawless. A fabulous performance as always from one of the greatest military bands in the world. Per Mare, Per Terram!
